Image Alexander was my first Rosetail and had problems with his finnage being so heavy that it caused a breakdown of the rays in his fins. He was a docile and sweet natured betta and probably my favorite fish of all time.

Image Azul was the betta that started me in the hobby. He and I stumbled through the Nitrogen Cycle without even knowing it existed. All I knew at the time was that they needed to have a decent home and their water changed so I changed part of the water daily and did not realize that I was doing the right thing at all. Just knew I did not a stinky tank. :D

Image Nate was one of my "prettier" betta and he was a joy to have but unfortunately went on to a different home soon after I got him.

Image Blaze was fiery tempered and a challenge but he had a wonderful and fun personality that made owning him special.

This is only a very small sample of the betta I have had over the years and they all were special and had strong personality traits that made them not just pets but members of my family. I will post more at another time but for now..please enjoy these lovely fish.

Image Fathom was my Platinum Halfmoon that recently died. Have no idea why just found him gone one morning. But I agree the Platinums are lovely fish. I have not had any blacks but love the looks of them. Did have a black female one time but she was killed by my red Cambodian female in a bid for the dominant female in the tank.

Image This is Emma my killer female. She killed every living thing I tried to put in the tank with her. This included 4 other female betta, 3 cories and 2 snails. I finally got the hint and left her alone in a tank until she took a header out of the small hole in the back of the tank where the cords came through in the middle of the night and finally killed herself too. She was a challenge.

Image This is Alexander one of my current betta males. He is now a lovely shade of blue, which is what seems to happen to every lovely green betta that I buy. I bring them home and feed them well and give them good conditions and they turn blue and do not look like a green anymore. LOL

As I said I have had many betta over the years and they are mostly halfmoons and Crowntails. But since we do not have any local fish stores where I am I have all of mine shipped in. So they come mainly from Thailand and if I am lucky enough to find a breeder on this side of the ocean I get them from here.

Thanks for the lovely compliment on them. I spend a lot of time with my fish and spoil them to pieces. LOL

Does anybody know why this happens? I know that red betta get their colour from carotenoid pigments in their diet, and that the healthier they are the more red they become. Based on what Rose said it would seem that something similar applies to blue betta, but I'm curious as to what vitamin/pigment they need.

Also, I loved reading the descriptions of all the fish- betta have so much personality!
