I described him to the local fish shop and they said White Spot.
I had 2, but the other one died, he went all red around the gills and the fins and then dropped dead.
The first BN died about 3 days after the 2 glass catfish I bought died.. They survived all of about 3 days.
This guy had been ok... Just very dotty. I put in the ickaway they told me but the spots are still there...
Help would be appreciated.

possibly just it's normal pattern?
The red gills on the other one would be caused through the nitrates etc in your tank as it was still cycling..

Okay cool. Thanks for that.

No there is no fluffyness. And I can't see any on the other fish either...

Well, who knows why the 2 glass catfish and the other BN dropped dead... Hopefully it was just some unknown reason and nothing sinister...

I think I will invest in a complete tester kit so I don't have to keep taking the water to the fish shop.

Thanks guys..

Quick question.

Could the ickaway I put in the tank over a week ago be resposible for a sudden cloudyness in the water? It has been cloudy for about 2 days now. Fish seem fine, but just major cloudyness.

I did a water change last Wednesday and cleaned out the top filter parts. Well the tubes, and the white mesh stuff on top, not the ceramic noodles though.

Can't think of anything else different in there.

do a water change immediatly your fish are going to die otherwise.
you need to build the good bacterior in your filter with one or 2 cheep fish then start adding your fish once the water is cycled.
if you are unsure of what I am talking about read the atrticle on the link below for help, this is urgent to save your fish and prevent other losses.

Hope this helps

What?

So the nitrogen cycle has to start all over again when you clean the tubes out of your filter? I didn't touch the ceramic noodles and cleaned it all out using the tank water.

The tank has cycled, it has been set up for about 6 weeks or more and it has done its thing. If it reverts back to the start each time you have to clean the filter parts then I would need to have 2 tanks going at once to have one tank of fish. I didn't understand that to be the case.

Bingo. :fish1: Ammonia, Nitrite, and to a lesser extent Nitrate are not good for your fish.

How long has the tank/filter been established?
If is recent, see if you can get someone with a disease free cycled tank to give you some dirty water from the filter and put it in yours.
(No more than 2 hrs old, OK?) Don't add any more fish until you have 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrite and Nitrate < 10.

What water ager are you using?
How long do you "stand" the new water before a change? Don't try that "top up the tank & then add ager" method.
If you havn't got one already , get a large a container.
You should be able to quickly prepare for a 80% w/c in an emergency with at least 24h old clean, aged & treated (pH etc) water ready to heat.
I use the microwave to heat water in a hurry. Not too hot though, don't want to get scalded if splashed.

Grab that test kit from one of the online sponsors & put it to good use.
Make sure it can do the above tests as well as pH in the range you want for the type of fish you plan to keep.
Grab a cheap electronic thermometer while your'e at it.

Post the results here.

We all know how to lose fish, but keeping the water is the secret to keeping the fish.

Old Dave

So far the other fish are fine.. It is now just the spontaneous cloudy water...

I did a water change (about40%) last wednesday. All as normal, only this time I pulled the filter out and washed all the crap out of it (bits of moss that had sucked up it etc) I washed it in the tank water that I took out of the tank.

I fill a bucket up and put the conditioner in it in the morning and then leave it to sit until the next afternoon, so usually about 30 hours or so. It sits in the laundry sink, and our laundry is like a hot house, so the water is usually nice and warm.

I use Seachem Prime conditioner.

The tank was fully cycled. It was set up on boxing day. Went for about 3 weeks with a couple of danios in it before I added the other fish and all was good. I regularly took the water into the shop to get tested and it was all good.

This cloudyness has just happened, and I thought maybe it might have had something to do with the ickaway that was put in there about 2 weeks ago.

So I havent got my own tester yet... But i went to the LFS and got them to.

He said everything was fine, but that the hardness was low and to add more of the crystals. Which I have done...
But I am not too sure about this shop... I asked if it could be too many fish in there and he said that I could fit a school of about 30 neon tetras in the tank!!! In a 22L tank? Somehow I think that might not be right....
