A baby fish that is.. In the fish tank.. No idea what it is, I am assuming it must be a danio, there are 5 of them, 2 red eye tetras and a Bristlenose. Its rather exciting. The tank has only been going since Xmas and there have been a couple of deaths and debate as to weather there are too many fish in there (it's only 22L).

Not to sure how happy the bubby is though, he is hovering in the same place right down near the bottom, and I reckon someone will eat him or he might get sucked up when I clean the tank (I'll try not to of course).

Going back now to study the tank and see if I can find anymore and then do some research on the breeding habits of Danios and Tetras!

Yeah there are heaps of them! I have kind biggish pebbles in the bottom and they are all hiding in the pockets they make...

Just did a water change and there are about 5 or 6 swimming around in the bucket. Only about 4mm long so they are hard to spot. I don't want to tip them on the garden, but can't catch them. Plus, what do I do if they grow up and not get eaten!

Really need to get that 6ft tank sooner rather than later...

Wow thats great :D.

If you plan on keeping them if they make it through, you could setup a little 2ft tank for the babies until they are big enough for the other tank?.
You will probably find more swimming around that you missed, baby fish are hard to find .

Yeah there are heaps of them! I managed to get a few out of the bucket but they are hard little buggers to catch.

So is baby fish a good sign that my tank is going ok then? Now I think I know why the Danios seem to be spending a lot of time picking at the rocks, they are eating baby fish aren't they?

It's pretty cool... I have been searching for more... Really must go and do some work, but I keep finding more and getting excited!

So I did some research and it says that Danios do breed fairly readily, although usually the eggs and/or the fry get gobbled up pretty quickly so it usually goes by un-noticed.

It suggested if you want to breed them to put marbles down the bottom so that the eggs fall through and can't be eaten. Chances are that's why these ones survived. Not because I have marbles in the bottom of the tank, but because the pebbles are marblish size.

The two zebra danios look really fat and swollen again too. Maybe they aren't and I am just study them too hard! Who knows... It's exciting anyway.

The ones I saved I put in the little 2L tank which I wasn't using. It is only tiny and there is no filter or air or anything, but I put a bit of the moss in there too.

At first I thought they were dead but this morning they are clinging onto the sides of the glass and they move position every now and then. There is only about 4 in there.

No idea how I will clean the tank out. Carefully I should imagine.

You can just see him. Smack bang in the middle if you look really hard!
I hope some of them make it in the big tank...

So I did another water change today and got heaps more babies in the bucket! I managed to fish out about another 8... Which in hindsight is a bit silly, because they are tiny and happy in the 2l for now... But if they all grow and survive I don't know what I will do with them! Ahhh.

There are heaps still in the bigger tank though, I can see them all amongst the rocks..

I never thought of that! I just don't really know what they are is all. There is 2 zebra danios, 2 leopard ones and 1 white looking one, so they could be anything! But I guess I will tell when they get bigger.

So far so good though, there are heaps of them swimming about in the little tank, they are getting really active, it's cool to watch them go from little specks just hanging about on the sides of the glass to little specks flitting through the water.
